Overview

Assess the CS environmental impacts improvements ( noise and emissions) at sigle flight level, airport level and Air Transport System level

The CS project aims at developing technologies to reduce the environmental impact of the new generation of aircraft.

The aim of the Technology Evaluator (TE) is to assess the environmental impacts and benefits of the overall Clean Sky project output. The evaluation activity is led by the research centres with the close collaboration of ITDs. These impacts will be estimated using fuel burn, emissions and noise pollution related metrics as well as on-board energy management and life cycle issues, where the two scenarios with and without CS will be compared towards the ACARE environmental goals. The assessment will be performed at three levels :

  • Single flight: the environmental performances of each aircraft or resulting from the CS project will be assessed separately with respect to present reference a/c or r/c for standard flights taking into account optimised trajectories studied by SGO.
  • Airport level: the environmental performances will be also assessed for a number of aircraft nearby the different types of European airports, taking into account the Air Traffic Management developments (including SESAR), and comparing the data for various fleet mix of standard and CS aircraft.
  • Air Transport System level: the same process will be also applied at a macroscopic scale to the whole aircraft flying all around the world.
