Why does Clean Sky launch Calls?

Clean Sky launches Calls when it requires additional technical expertise to meet its remit. There are several types of Calls:

- Calls for Proposal for Partner selection in the various ITDs will be announced in this chapter when there is a need for specific technical capabilities within the Joint Undertaking / ITDs all along the 7 years of Clean Sky. At least 25% of the JU funding to Clean Sky activities will be allocated via this mechanism.

- Calls for Tender will be issued when an ITD will need to sub-contract a task.

- Calls for Associate for adding an Associate to an ITD will be issued by the ITD when necessary.

However, please note that responding to Calls is the only means of offering to work with and for Clean Sky; we will not respond to any spontaneous applications made outside the Call framework.

Who should respond to these Calls?

You should!  We want you to submit a proposal if you have the right expertise in the field required.

We are particularly eager to receive applications from SMEs. And although Clean Sky is mainly funded by the European Commission, participation is not limited to organisations established in the 27 Member States of the EU: legal entities established in countries associated to the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme for Research may also participate.

When will Calls be launched?

Calls are launched as and when the need for extra technical capacity is required by each of the individual ITDs. At the moment, the rate of publication is around 4 calls per year.

There is no topic in current Calls that I can apply for, but I would still like to work with Clean Sky. Can I register my interest with you now?

No. Please wait for the official launch of a Call you can respond to, and submit your proposal then according to the stated submission procedure.

How are Calls evaluated and final selections made?

Calls will be evaluated on an open and competitive basis and will result in the selection of Partners, sub-contractors or Associates for Clean Sky. After the Call deadline and under the monitoring of the JU staff and of the ITD member(s) responsible for that particular Call topic, a panel of evaluators drawn from the ITD members and independent experts will assess all proposals in a given Call topic, and will propose a ranking list to be endorsed formally by the ITD Steering Committee. Contract negotiations will be started with the organisation at the top of that ranking list.

When will I hear back about the result of my proposal?

You should hear back from us about whether your proposal has been successful or unsuccessful within 8 weeks following the closing date for submissions.
